HOW IT ALL STARTED

RootLedger didn’t happen by accident. It was built through years of growing up in the landscaping industry and watching it evolve over the last decade.


My mom worked as an office manager for a local landscaping company in Florida, and that same company became my first job in the industry. I started at the front desk as a receptionist, working out of a double-wide office trailer on-site at the nursery. From there, my role grew alongside the company. I moved from receptionist to office manager, and later into a special projects role—supporting administrative systems, estimating for large installations, and implementing digital systems as technology advanced.


As I continued working with growing commercial landscaping businesses—many scaling from $1M to $6M and selling to private equity—I was brought in to help build the systems required to scale: structured financial processes, job costing, forecasting, reporting, and organized back-office operations. I saw firsthand how much clarity those systems created—and how rarely smaller companies had access to them.


Over and over, I watched hardworking owners excel in the field while struggling behind the scenes. Administrative work, HR processes, job costing, and financial organization were consistently neglected—not from lack of effort, but from lack of time and support. The same issues repeated month after month: missing receipts, unclear margins, overstated profits, and decisions being made without reliable financial data.


I built RootLedger to bring the same level of structure used in larger, private-equity-backed organizations to the “little guy.”
